On Wednesday May 25th I Had the opportunity to Interview our new Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kaskey who will be starting around July 4th, taking over for Dennis Riker who is Retiring after 13 years.

 

1. Where were you born and go to College and what kind of Certification?

 

 

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, 1988 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School and a 1992 graduate of Temple University where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education Social Studies. certified in Pennsylvania as a social studies teacher, secondary principal, and superintendent of schools. 

 

 

 

2. What schools have you worked for?

 



Began my career in public education in 1993 when I served as a Social Studies Teacher, Student Government Advisor, Assistant Athletic Director, and Boys’ Basketball Coach at Montoursville Area High School. From there he followed his Principal, Dr. Daniel Chandler, to Berks County where he was hired as the Dean of Students/Athletic Director for Oley Valley High School in 1997.

 

During MY tenure at Oley Valley, Dr. Kaskey completed graduate coursework at Lehigh University and earned both Principal’s Certificate and master’s degree in Educational Leadership. In 1999, accepted a position as a full-time 12-month Assistant Principal at Upper Merion Area High School in King of Prussia.

 

After three years at Upper Merion, was selected to lead Phoenixville Area High School under the direction of Dr. David Noyes, Superintendent of Schools. For seven years, from 2002 to 2009, served as the building leader for a staff of over one hundred employees and a student population near one thousand.

 

From 2010 to 2013, was given the privilege of serving my home district, the Fleetwood Area School District, as Middle School Assistant Principal. During my time at Fleetwood, also served as an adjunct professor (Educational Leadership) for Cabrini College's Graduate and Professional Studies Program. From 2013 to January 2019, served in the Governor Mifflin School District as Cumru Elementary School Principal. Has held his current position, Susquehanna Township School District Assistant Superintendent, since January 7, 2019

 

 

After three years at Upper Merion, I was selected to lead Phoenixville Area High School under the direction of Dr. David Noyes, Superintendent of Schools. For seven years, from 2002 to 2009, served as the building leader for a staff of over one hundred employees and a student population near one thousand. 

 

During my first 20 years in public education, was highly active in the Pennsylvania Principal’s Association (PPA), formerly the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals (PAESSP). He served in several capacities including the Association’s Professional Development Coordinator, East II Secondary Regional Representative, East III Secondary Regional Representative, and Eastern State Conference Chairperson.

 

In May of 2015, successfully defended my dissertation at Widener University. My dissertation topic, “Factors contributing to the retention and turnover of school principals in Pennsylvania”, received the 2016 Widener University School of Education Linda Lehnert Award (given to a graduate student who has shown outstanding commitment to education as demonstrated by excellence in academics, research, and performance) and the 2016 Outstanding Dissertation Award (given to recognize a student’s excellence in doctoral dissertation research and who completed qualitative or quantitative dissertation that demonstrated originality and rigor).

 

 

 

 

 

3. Where do you live right now and do you have Kids?

 

Fleetwood Area School District with my wife Kathleen, daughters Amanda (Temple University Graduate - 2018), Laura (Temple University Graduate - 2022), Michaela (Temple University Sophomore), & Julia (Grade 12), and his three dogs Anakin, Kenobi, and Finn.

 

 

4. Do you have any hobbies and do you like any Sports?

 

Daughters participate in their extracurricular activities. My hobbies include landscaping, construction, camping, baseball card collecting, playing basketball, playing softball, and eating pizza and/or hot wings.
